The Hilly Town ( NamhSam )

Our MRTV-3 crew are now arrive at Nant Sam one of the hill stations in Northern Shan State where the best quality tea leaves are producing which is 76 miles far from Kyauk Me`. Being situated on mountain range, the weather is so cool in the whole year round. Nant Sam is a Shan name meaning the city where the water even though feel cold and shivering.

The population of Nant Sam is over 6,000 where the majorities are TaAung Palaung national race whom deeply belief in Buddhism. Nant Sam is surrounded by layers of mountain ranges and all four directions where white robe pagodas stand in the background of the bluish mountain ranges enhancing the environmental scene of Nant Sam. Nant Sam is located on the mountain slope in the middle of the East to West main road. Most of the houses are two storeyed buildings, which have grocery shops on the ground floors and people living on the upper floors. During our trip to Nant Sam, we also visit Nant Sam people’s hospital. It was built on the peak of the hillock. We can view well the entire city from here. Cherry and pine trees are also covering the whole environs. 25 beds Nant Sam hospital is providing health care services to the locals employee one township medical superintend, two assistant surgeons, one attendant and nine nurses.
In the education sector, there are one Basic Education High School and one Affiliated High School in Nant Sam. And these are fully equipped with modern teaching and learning aids such as multimedia classrooms, language labs and computer skill rooms. Most of the slopes in Nant Sam region occupied tea plantations and some of their life spans are about 200 years. So, you see wherever we view from any direction the whole environ is green and pleasant.

Traditional tea plantation and production is the main business of TaAung Palaung national races in Nant Sam region. And there are altogether over 40,000 acres of tea plantations. And Nant Sam green tea is very popular for its taste and quality all around the nation. During our visit to Nant Sam, we have an opportunity to enjoy the traditional dance perform by Nant Sam traditional dance troupe. This dance is stage on festive and communal occasion. The costumes of Palaung national races are so strange and amazing. So I like to wear like them and I also participate the dancing. This dance is usually performed by both Palaung men and women unitedly or sometimes only by the women accompanied with the music or the traditional drum. It is dance at joyous occasions at religious festivals in order to preserve the traditional culture. By looking this dance, I am sure that the city of Nant Sam where the tea plantations are thriving and greening under the mist. As well as tangible aspect and traditional custom of Palaung national races that was survive till to date will link along in my memory for the whole life.
