The Japanese Contemporary Clay Work Exhibition organized by Japan Foundation and the Embassy of Japan was held in Yangon for the very first time. At the exhibition, Japanese Traditional culture works of (29) Japanese artists and works of Myanmar Artists Soe Naing were exhibited there. 44 works of world of Myanmar artists as well as 25 works of Myanmar artists Soe Naing are displayed there. In Japan, clay is used as raw material and producing of 3.D materials from un-heated clay is called clay work. World well-known Japanese clay work are made from such clay.Each Japanese Clay work has its own meaning. These contemporary clay work can give viewers food for thought. Do the finished works and given titles match or not? It depends on the viewer's imagination and reflection. At the exhibition, some displayed clay work are so well-done that you cannot separate them from porcelain.

You will find some clay work complexly sculptured while others depict past events. Clay works named 'Untitled' give viewers the job of using yours own imigination to view them. Clay work entitled Distant World' showing layers of mountains which makes the viewers feel the image vividly. And you will be awed when you see, what you think is an ancient manuscript, but in reality it is manuscript made of clay. Some of the displayed arts of clay seems and look so authentic, that only when you touch them, you realized that they are made of clay. Seeing a paper-basket in a room like this will make you wonder who has put this waste-basket, here? But if you carefully basket made of clay. And there is the display of shredded newspapers which you can't separate from the real thing. You will find many interested persons coming here to this Clay Work Exhibition. When you look at these splendidly sculptured clay handicrafts by the Myanmar and Japanese artists, they will make you gasp in owed at these exceptional clay sculptures and come to appreciate the adeptness of the artists involve in creating clay sculptures that look like the genuine things.
