Let’s Talk About Lahu Nationals

Keng Tung, situated at the easternmost of Myanmar, is a hilly town. In the south of Keng Tung, there are small villages, inhabited by Lahu nationals and Ket Zin village is one of them.
Lahu nationals are honest and hospitable. Although they are being high landers, they preserve their own tradition and culture.
This occasion is usually celebrated to give respects to the elders. It is always held as the new-year celebration.
Lahu nationals make a living by cultivation and cottage industry. Blacksmithy is also brings them major incomes.
The youngsters play various games to have fun. According to their tradition, they spin the tops as a work of bringing more productivity with better soil. This game is a traditional one.

They also play “small missile in a game of pitch” of fun of the youths and bundle throwing game” which is a game to enhance friendship between Lahu bachelors and maidens.
Khawpoat or pounded glutinous rice is a part of their dry rations as well as their marketable product. It is made with steamed white and dark purplish glutinous rice, pounded to be sticky and dried in the sun. The taste is savoury and the smell is salivating when Khawpoat is fried.
New Year celebration dance with gourd pipe is also performed by the old and the young. They portray the dance is the form of cleaning and cutting the plot and planting the crops.
