Lwe, one of high Landers inhabit in Eastern Shan State, Keng Tong Region. Why do they live on the mountains! There is a reason that they believe it is unhealthy to live in dark ravines where they can hear the croaking of frogs. Therefore, they rarely ventured down from the mountains and you can see all their villagers are on high, windy peaks. Although a few villagers survived by hunting, most villagers revolved around the plantation or "Taung-ya" and they also raise pigs and chickens. You can also early find their simplicity. |

When we arrived at HweKhwe Village or Lwe nationals, fortunately, our arrival coincided with their traditional noviciation ceremony. Being strong believes in Buddhism, they make their sons to be novices at the age of 10. To become cleaver boys, all the novices learn the Buddha's teaching and recite the sermons. The significant one on the mountain is a huge Buddha image. The mountains are so high and it is difficult to build a huge image like this. Lwe nationals may be poor but they have incomparable generosity. Now, all the villagers are going to pay homage to the Buddha image in a long procession. You are probably aware that such a scene is very rare these days. |

We also studied the traditional dance with long knives performed by a brave young Lwe national. The dance is very interesting. His performance goes well with rhythmic beats. I'Myanmar sure that all visitors will enjoy meeting with the tribal people in their traditional atmosphere. |
