Recorded from Pyin Oo Lwin and Kachin State common otters inhabited mountains, streams and lakes living in burrows where they can dig by themselves about 18 inches above floor level. They live in groups, probably family groups. Very good swimmers, they can stay under water for 6 to 8 minutes. When diving ears and nostrils are closed. Their food consists of fish, shrimp, etc. |

Yangon Zoological Garden was established in 1901 with the public donation of 240,000 kyats. The construction started at the present site after clearing 61 acres of virgin land. Before building the zoological gardens in the present site, wild animals were placed in the cages and exhibit to the public as fair museum in 1882, which is the present site of Yangon General Hospital. Later, the wild animals and birds were moved gradually to the new enclosure. The newly established Zoological Garden was named Victoria Memorial Park in 1906. The Natural History Museum opened in 1966 was also established as part of the zoo. |
