Let's go to the Zoo (Part-II)

Elephants are the biggest land animals and they are also useful to mankind. Riding elephant is exciting. Let's ride over it now. All of you must have seen elephant but have you taking ride on it? OK! I'll ride it on Hla Moe Sein. She is 14 years old.

This elephant is very clever and so tame. I'd like to know about her please.

Her name is Mo Mo. She arrived at the zoo from Kayah State since 1961 at the age of seven years. Now, she is quite old. But she can still please the visitors with her performance, so that every visitor acquainted with her name.

Takin can be found in the west of China, Myanmar and Butan. They eat fruits and leaves. And their average life span is 25 years.
Her name is Mon Mon. She arrived here from PutaO Township, Kachin State, which is found out of Myanmar. Even other zoos could not exhibit rare species as Takin.
The star tortoise can be successfully bred in Myanmar. These rare species are in small in size and distinct marking on their shell like a star. So, they are called star tortoise. Myanmar, in cooperation with the Wildlife Conservation Society is carrying out a task to preserve these rare animals.

About 8,600 species of birds living in the world inhabit in the forests, rivers, lakes and some are at the icy mountain. Each has their distinct characteristic and they are the strange colourful designs and very sweet sound. In Myanmar, there are 70 species of birds in the zoo.

Scientists say that the birds are descended from reptiles. Their beaks and legs are different according to their nature. Birds with strong and big beaks eat nuts of hard shell. And birds with narrow and long beaks eat aquatic animals.
