It was opened on May the 6th, 1955. There are over 3,000 interesting items exhibited at this Museum. When you enter the museum, the first exhibit that you will encounter is the exhibit of items and utensils used by the ancient Myanmar civilization. |

The museum is also exhibiting weapons made from stone and bronze used by ancient civilization. Besides the Stone Age artifacts used by the Stone Age civilization, you can also see other Stone Age items. This exhibit depicts the ancient Myanmar civilization. You can also study in details the paintings of the Yadanabon period Myanmar artists. These paintings show the way of life of Myanmar Palace customs and the character of the Myanmar people, thus, after studying these paintings, you will come to know how the Myanmar people lived and worked throughout their history. Myanmar Traditional “SitTuYin” or chess is a traditional Myanmar game, which is not played like the western chess, and was invented by the Myanmar, themselves. As these chess pieces are made of ivory, they are expensive and quite attractive to look at. You will find this exhibit very interesting. |

In the Yadanabon period exhibit, you will also see the HinTha or Mythical bird weights used in this period where buying and selling was concerned and you will realize that they did systematic business in that period. The area of Yadanabon period Mandalay city is depicted artistically on a map made of writing tablet. Another exhibit is the helmet used by ancient Myanmar soldiers. In the same exhibit, you will be able to study for yourself the royal order sent out by the Place, Silver coins and boxes which contains all sorts of letters. In another exhibit, palm-leaf inscriptions from the Yadanabon and KoneBaung periods are displayed. And we will be able to study the Myanmar traditional glass mosaic technique that we used in the Yadanabon period at the Buddhist Cultural exhibit, which is exhibiting glass mosaic items from Buddha images to thrones and utensils used by the Yadanabon period. The Buddhist monks who resided in monasteries of the Innwa period used to put in palm-leaf inscriptions and writing tablets in boxes in the shape of a mythical creature, called the “Toe Nayar” which is said to inhibit the Himalayan regions. |

Besides all the above-mentioned items, you will also find the arched-roof cart, looms to weave clothings, accessories for the looms, and other items made from toddy-palm leaves, used by Myanmar people in successive eras. There is also the Myanmar ten traditional arts and crafts exhibition. Thus, you can study Myanmar culture, customs, arts and crafts in a single place except Mondays and gazette holidays.
