Development of Mongsi Region

Myanmar is filled with the beauties of nature, such as natural scenic beauty of the forests and the mountain ranges, and the scenic beauties of the land and water. Now, we would like to present to you the development of Mongsi region where there is an abundant of natural scenic beauties of forests and mountains.

Mongsi region is situated in TarMoeNyae Township, Muse District, Shan State (North), and is 3064 ft about sea-level, located on KutKhine-TarMoeNyae-Laukkawi road. Apart from the Shans, Kachins and Palaungs, you will also find the other national brethrens living together in harmony in this region. As Mongsi region is a hilly region, it is full of beautiful sceneries. The climate is cool and the people who live here are peaceful and they are surrounded with natural scenic beauty. U Khun Ohn of Mongsi village explained about the changes of development in this region.

As Mongsi region is a remote place where transportation was difficult and education was not very developed in the past. A primary school was upgraded to a middle school and now being upgraded to a high school in a span of fifty years. A clinic has also been built here. Nowadays, development can be witnessed. Double crops and summer paddy are being cultivated. We grow paddy one time in 3 months. Last year, Hsin Shwe Li paddy is thriving and it yields 218 baskets per acre. We hope for a better yield of crops this year.

Moreover, you will discover that the locals are pious by witnessing the venerable Yan Aung Myin Pagoda and many monasteries. Yan Aung Myin Pagoda is magnificently built on a hill. By seeing this, it is obvious that the local people have been giving priority to religion. Myanmar Radio and Television of the Ministry of Information built a TV relay station in Mongsi region for locals to watch TV. Although it is a hilly region, paddy can be grown all the year round.

Secretary of Muse District Peace and Development Council Maj Tin Yu who is giving a helping hand in paddy cultivation explained as follow.

In 2005-2006, 300 acres of land have been put under summer paddy in Mongsi region, TarMoeNyae Township, Muse District, Shan State (North). We will grow 55 acres of paddy in ManPon Shan farm, 45 acres in Wain Khaung village farm, 110 acres in Narlai farm, 75 acres in Mone Hwan farm and 15 acres in NantWan farm totaling 300 acres of paddy. In 2004-2005, 120 acres of paddy were cultivated and the highest yielding rate is 218.9 baskets per acre. The main difficulty in cultivating paddy in Mongsi region is that it has a cool climatic condition. As the maximum night temperature from the beginning to December when we start of grow paddy to the end of February reaches only about 4˙C, we have to cover the paddy plantation with plastic sheets to get the maximum temperature of about 15˙C which is required for the paddy plants to grow. At the end of February, when the temperature is raise and paddy plant is 45 to 50 days old, the paddy plants have to be grown, two plants at a time. In order to get the require temperature, we have to control temperature by using irrigating and dry up system. Measures are being undertaken to grow 100 acres of physic nut plants in order to get full capacity of electricity in Mongsi region. Now nurturing and cultivating of physic nut plants and land preparation are being undertaken. We also educate people how to nurture physic nut plants and demonstrate the test running of bio-diesel fueled hand tiller, trawler jeeps and generators. So, we have presented this program to show the development endeavours that have been made in the remote areas of Myanmar.
