While the Government is laying emphasis on strengthening health pillar of national brethren, industrial sector is also contributing to provide health care services across the country. The largest pharmaceutical factory in Myanmar which can provide national Pharmaceutical Demand is situated in PyinOoLwin in Mandalay Division and is implementing medicine production required for the national health tasks with the potential of mechanization.

Myanma Pharmaceutical Factory PyinOoLwin is under the supervision of Myanma Pharmaceutical Industries of the Ministry of Industry (1) and started its project in 1999. The total area of the factory is 363.65 acres including main factory compound 26.4 acres.

Construction of the factory was implemented step by step yearly and completed in 2006.

The form of the building was constructed to meet good manufacturing practice for Pharmaceutical products and ISO 14000 series standard of International standard Organization.

There are 5 objectives for constructing Myanmar Pharmaceutical Factory (PyinOoLwin). The first one is to provide Pharmaceutical demand of the nation and reduce the import of medicines. The second one is to distribute effectively medicine to central and upper regions of Myanmar.

The third one is to contribute regional development and create more job opportunities for educated youths. The fourth is to disseminate medicine manufacturing technique among the youths in this region by using human resources.

The fifth is to reduce the cost for medicines which need in health care service.

Machines that use in production of medicine were installed according to the GMS and ISO 9000 series standard.

Pilot production of medicine in tablet and capsule was started since 2005.

Raw and packing materials are being used according to the standard and method written in Pharmacopoeia, internationally accepted medical treatise.

In producing medicines, set ratio of ingredients are mixed according to the respective medicine, then made to be solid and then dried by using modern machine in wet granulation method.

When necessary size of solid is obtained after drying, they have to be moulded as tablets. Auto powder conveyor can clean unnecessary particles stuck to the surface of tablets and can make fine ones. Medicines are produced according to GMP method and also made in process quality control in weight, thickness and hardness etc.

In packing, step by step process, such as counting, filling, capping and sealing has been made.

International standard modern machine are being used in producing of qualified medicines in Betalactam group like penicillin and cephalosporin, which may be harmful for the patients if they are not compatible, are producing in separate department.

Under the guidance of the State, priority has been made to produce new generation medicine including 48 medicine groups and 213 kinds of medicines. And then, medicines which is widely used and for six major diseases in Myanmar will be produced. Over 300 machines which can produce medicine tablets and capsules, medicinal powder, ointment, syrup, eye drop and intravenous injection including other related machine will be installed and medicines will be produced with the cooperation of medical experts and skillful pharmacists to meet national pharmaceutical demand quantitatively and qualitatively.

Myanma Pharmaceutical factory (PyinOoLwin) is producing medicines from raw materials to finished products by using modern laboratory apparatus and guarantees quality assurance for medicine.

Medicines were producing with GMP system and a quality control department was formed and supervised by factory manager.

The quality of medicine manufactured in Myanma Pharmaceutical Factory (Pyin Oo Lwin) is maintained by using quality control and quality assurance system.

In the process of quality control, the medicines were manufactured according to test procedure of International Pharmacopoeia book.

In quality assurance, the original quality of medicine will be maintained until expiry date is over.

We take responsibility to guarantee the stability of medicines which are in the market until expiry date is over by compassing with retained sample.

We have to maintain safety and efficacy of medicines with modern technology for consumers.

In producing injection and intravenous injection, water for injection is essential. In order to get water without metal, it can be used the method of reverse osmosis and mixed bed deionizer, and then to get water for injection BP, USP, and it can be distilled with modern multi-Effect distillant.

Power injection vial which are not in the ampoules, such as small volume parenteral and betalactam groups are produced separately in class 100 clean room.

In producing intravenous medicine, LDPE plastic bottles instead of glass bottles, are used and sterilized with hot water spraying method.

The advantage of implementing Myanma Pharmaceutical Factory (PyinOoLwin) is producing of import-substitute medicine and this medicine can easily available at reasonable price. We believed that this fact can contributed much towards progress of public health care services.
