Noble Month of Waso

he month of Waso, is the 4th month of the Myanmar 12 months. This month starts from the Rainy season when the environ is green and the flowers, which had endured the heat of the sun the whole summer, are now in full bloom. Among the various kinds of flowers you will find are the Pyin Ma, Pone Net and Waso (a) Taw Pan Wah.

The Full Moon Day of Waso represents the day the Lord Buddha was conceived and the day he left for recluse and the day he gave his first sermon after becoming enlightened. On this day, pagodas in Myanmar are teeming with devout Budddhists performing all kinds of good deeds.

People also go to monasteries where they observed the Buddhist precepts, offer Waso flowers, Waso candles and Waso robes to the sanghas. The Sanghas who are the disciples of the lord Buddha spent their Buddhist lent period observing Sabbath at the monasteries this is known as Waso in Myanmar, thus the month is also called, Waso. It is considered much merits is gained when one offers a Waso robe to the Sanghas before they enter into the Buddhist lent. Thus, Buddhists offer these robes from the 1st waxing of Waso to the Full Moon Day of Waso, which is a period of 15 days.
On the 1st waning of Waso, it is a traditional custom for everyone, young and old alike to pick various seasonal flowers, individually or in groups, and offer them as Waso flowers to the Pagodas.
