Myanmar has been planting mulberry trees, breeding silkworms and producing silk yarns as a family tradition since the 17^th century. Nowadays has assume responsibility in the bleeding of silkworms with modern techniques the Myanma Cotton and Sericulture Enterprises under the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation. Mulberry trees which are essential in the breeding of silkworms can be seen everywhere in Myanmar but are most suitable for silkworms breeding when grown the hilly regions. You can order and breed silkworm eggs from production farm of Pyin-Oo- Lwin in Mandalay Division and Twoon Zan in Chin State. Firstly, silkworm eggs are hatched in a hatching room for 10 or 12 days while hatching them, light has to be given for 18 hours a day. After the hatching stage, they are examined in disease control room. It they are found to be infected, they are discarded. In breeding lava stages, they are breed as 1st instar lava stage, 2nd instar and 3rd instar lava stages and they are fed with chopped mulberry leaves 4 or 5 times daily. After 4 days in 4th instar lava stage, they shed their skin again for a day and a half. After 7 or 9 days in the 5th instar lava stage, they start to a mount. Now, their bodies turn into the colour of wax and strands of silk are produced from their lavas are placed in the net. Netting takes 3 days and temperature control is required in the netting period. Later the wet cocoons are dried in drying machine. The dried cocoons are then sorted out and separated into stained and bright cocoons. The bright cocoons are boiled in boiling machine.

After boiling, they are reeled in reeling machines to get the Silk yam. The hanks of yarn are obtained after reeling the cocoons. The silk yarns are classified depending on their thickness and qualities. After packing and weighting the honks are sent to the storeroom to be stored. Now, we can wear the high quality wears using these silk yams.
