From "Putao" to "Machan Baw"

You will find the town of “Putao”, a quaint district town, situated 1,342ft above sea-level, in Kachin State in the north of the Union of Myanmar. The town of Putao is 725 miles by plane from the capital city of Yangon, and is part of the Himalayan mountain range. Putao is situated on a plateau in the middle of high mountain ranges. The distinctive factor of Putao is that it is surrounded by Southeast Asia’s only snow-capped mountain. Known as “Pu Taung” in the Shan language, the town of Putao is inhabited by national brethrens such as the Bamar, Jing Phaw, Rawan, Lisu and Khamti Shan who live there peacefully side-by-side. The dark and misty mountain ranges, the winding stream flowing down these mountain sides and the turning and curving roads snaking across these mountains and the quaint traditional houses of our national brethrens adds up to the picturous beauty of Putao. You will find that it is always cold in Putao as they have only one month of summer, while rain and cold weather persist in the other months of the year. The mornings of Putao are covered with mist and when the mist breaks away, there is still the fog to reckon with. Dear viewers, if you are in for taking trips under misty conditions, you can take a trip to the town of “ MachanBaw” only 14miles from Putao where you will be surrounded by mist all along the trip. You will be passing many large flat plateaus and many small villages along your route. These fruits are well known and popular for their health value, and that’s why they are grown on a manageable scale in almost every home in the region. Grafting method of grapefruits and lemon trees together thrives abundantly in the region. If we continue our journey through the cold misty weather, we will come to the Kaung Hmu Lone Pagoda. The Malikha River flows constantly at the bottom of the mountain where the Kaung Hmu Lone Pagoda stands. This Kaung Hmu Lone Pagoda, which stands on the bank of the Malikha River is one of the prominent ancient pagodas in the northern part of Myanmar. After paying homage to the Kaung Hmu Lone Pagoda, you can take a quite rest on the bank of the easy flowing Malikha River. Traveling further along the motor road, gradually ascending and descending the mountain, you will arrive at Naung Khaing village at the bank of the Malikha River in a short time. And on the other side of the Malikha, you will come to the little town of MachanBaw. A rope-suspension bridge connects Naung Khaing Village on the side of the Malikha River, with the town of MachanBaw on the other side. Under this suspension bridge, the Malikha River with its freezing cold water flows constantly. Surrounded by large green forests and situated between ranges of mountains, the town of MachamBaw is built on a mountaintop. MachanBaw is about 4,000 feet above sea level. MachanBaw is 1,000 miles from the capital Yangon, 14 miles from the town of Putao, is the place where national brethrens like the Bamar, Rawang, Lisu, JingPhaw, and Khamti Shan live harmoniously and unitedly side-by-side. |
