Towards Pontaung Ponnya Yaw Region ( Part -I )
The valleys of west Yoma Chin mountains and Pontaung, Ponnya mountains in Central Myanmar is called the Yaw Region.
It is 700 ft above sea level. It includes Saw Township, Hteelin Township and Gangaw Township in the west of Magway Division. If you visit Yaw region in Saw Towndship, you can go by car from Pakokku in Central Myanmar passing through mountains and sand streams one after another.
Thick forests reflect richness of natural resources in Myanmar. It is an interesting journey. Locals of Yaw region are simple and they earn their livelihood by farming. One of the customs in Yaw region is that locals make their hand-woven dresses themselves. The custom of rolling cheroot by using their product, corn leaves and smoking it is a life-style of the rural area.

Simple and honest Yaw locals are pious. The hollowed wooden gong on the ground floor of the monastery was struck at 10 o’clock every morning.
After hearing it, villagers go to village monastery with alms food to offer to Sayadaws. After administering 5 precepts by Sayadaw, merits were shared.
These scenes from rural area reflect unity, tranquility and pleasant nature of Myanmar today.
So, I have presented these scenes as a program titled “Towards Pontaung Ponnya- Yaw Region Part-I”.
