Socioeconomic Conditions of Chin State

For ensuring equitable development of all states and Regions, as abundance of mountain ranges and rare plains.

For smooth and secure transportation in Chin State, the Government is making continuous efforts without discrimination of any such, the entire nation is developing all round.

Previously, transportation was difficult in Chin State due to the plains or hills region is repairing and upgrading the 17 side streets in addition to 4-main roads of Kalay-Phalam-Hakha Road, Gangaw-Hakha road, Hakha-Matupi road and Mintat-Matupi road. As better transportation develop throughout the region, economic, social welfare, health and education standards are also improved.

In agriculture sector, fallow and virgin lands were cleared and highland reclamation farming is being practiced. To date, 24,844 acres of terrace cultivation have been put in progress.

Other than the paddy, maize, beans and pluses and kitchen crops are being cultivated.

Geographic and climatic conditions of Chin State are very suitable for tea plantations. Thriving of tea plants grown on the mountain slopes are the proof of the motto of “ Chin State will be Tea Region.”

In livestock breeding sector, mythuns, which cannot be found anywhere else in Myanmar, are mainly bred. Up to now, 32,491 mythuns have been bred and the Government is fulfilling the needs of through application of correct techniques and markets are being found for them. Loans and veterinary assistance are also provided.

Public Health care is also being upgraded in Chin State and are being nurtured health staff and nurses to be qualified to be able to serve capably in newly extended hospitals, clinics and dispensaries.

Falam weaving Training school under the Ministry of Cooperatives is also teaching the skill of domestic handicrafts to Chin ladies.

For electricity supply throughout the entire Chin State, Nga Sit Var & Laivar hydro power plants play an important role.

Laivar hydro power plant is operating with water from Laivar reservoir. It is surprising to see the Laivar reservoir built in the mountainous region and by seeing that wonderful masterpiece, all should thank to the Government for its endeavour with real goodwill.

In conclusion, Chin State, which is one of the mountainous regions and rich in natural resources, has been developing in agriculture, livestock breeding and education sector on par with the other plain regions.
