The wild physic nut plants are mostly found from the dry region to the temperate zone in our country.

In order to use bio-fuel extracted from wild physic nut plants in vehicles and other diesel engines, regiments and units under the North-West Command, departmental officials and private entrepreneurs are growing physic nut plants on a large scale or a manageable scale in North-West Command area, Sagaing Division and you can see that they are thriving.

In accord with the guidance of the commander of North-West Command, a total of 30,000 acres of physic nut plants will be grown by the respective regiments and units under the Command within 3 years from 2006 to 2008. For the year 2006, 9000 acres of physic nuts have been planted and arrangements are underway to plant the remaining 1000-acre of physic nut plants.

North-West Command

We are now at a physic nut model farm of North-West Command. On this 7 acres land, physic nut plants have been grown to produce pure physic nut strains. We have 2 objectives. The 1st is to produce quality physic nut strains required for the regiments and units under the North-West Command. And the 2nd is to establish a physic nut model field, from where quality physic nut strains and necessary methods for growing them, can be provided to agricultural organizations in the environs of the regiments and units and regional organizations.

As the State is planning to use physic nut oil as bio-fuel, 500,000 acre of physic nut plants are to be planted in each State and Division within 3 years..

Among the regiments and units in Monywa Station, we have a plan to grow 75 acres of physic nuts in No.961 Works Company (Engineer). At present, 103.3 percent has been completed and a total of 85,450 physic nut plants have been grown there.

North-West Command

The target acreage of physic nut plants is 75 acres in 2006 and we’ve successfully implemented. This farm is a physic nut strain production farm where the necessary physic nut strain for 2007 and 2008 will be produced.

A physic nut nursery has been established at No. 8 Training Depot out of the regiments and units in Shwebo Station under North-West Command. 20,000 physic nut saplings have been nurtured there starting from January 2005. There are two kinds of physic nut saplings – seeding and grafting saplings.

According to the 3-year plan, we have to grow 450 acres of physic nut plants to meet the target.

The aim of establishing this physic nut farm is to meet the target of physic nut acreages during the set time under the supervision of the Commander of North-West Command.

The private entrepreneurs are planting physic nuts for the benefit of regional development while giving priority to the State’s objectives 11,000 acres of physic nut plants are being cultivated by Tin Win Tun Company in Monywa according to the target acreage for the year 2006-2008.

Under the supervision of the Ministry of Forestry, Tin Win Tun Company is planting 4,400 acres of physic nut plants for the first term of 2006-2007 by utilizing machinery.

Moreover, the energy sector plays an essential role in transforming the nation’s agricultural sector to mechanized farming. To provide these sectors, the technique of producing bio-fuel from physic nut plants naturally grown in Myanmar has been developed. So the government is giving priority to grow physic nut plants in bulk across the nation including Sagaing Division.
