Survey of Hu Kong Valley Tiger ( Part 3 )

The wildlife and Sanctuaries Division of the Forest Department in cooperation with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) from 2002 November to 2005 October, the Forest Department with the cooperation of the Wild Animal Conservation Society have taken a tiger survey for 3-years. The Ministry of Forest announced that 2,494 sq miles of Hukong Valley Region will be added onto the present designated tiger conservation reserve, totaling up to 8,452 sq miles of conservation area for the tigers.

The tiger observation team arrived at Shin Bwe Yan village, which is situated on the famous Lido highway, built in the 2nd World War with an air-strip for airplanes, now has an gold production industry going on.

The tiger observation team is here at Hukong Valley Conservation Reserve to study how many tigers are left in this region, which is one of the seventeen places habituated by tigers. From Shin Bwe Yan Village the team headed towards the town of Nan Yun. All along the route, we would pass by the wooden bridges built by the Naga nationals. The observation team arrived at Nan Yun, in the evening. The town of Nan Yun is a peaceful town covered by mist, most of the time. Naga nationals live here and trade with commodities produced in the region.

The aims for the coming to Nan Yun by the tiger observation team to Hukong Valley are :
To prevent the killing and poaching of tigers and other wild animals in this valley, thus to increase the animal population.
Prevention of intrusions into Hukong Valley, so as not to disturb the natural habitat of the tigers and other wild animals.
To obtain the largest tiger reserve in the world as proposed by the expects from the wild life conservation society.
And to give the eco-tourism industry a lift and strengthen the development of the Kachin State by enhancing the population of the tigers and wild animals in that region.
