Seik Khun Handloom Industry

Myanmar nationals value their traditional arts of handicraft including weaving of cotton cloths.

Most of the villagers of Seik Khun in Shwebo Township carry out the traditional weaving. The Seik Khun products are well-known in markets as the designs are beautiful and the dyed colour does not fade away.

In weaving the cloths, firstly, we have to spin the white cotton fibres and then, we dye the desired colour. We can dye only one colour (or) blend with other colours. The dyed fibres are then dried in the sunshine to maintain the colour.

Later on, we roll the fibres and put into bobbin one after another by using a small swift according to use it as a warp. And then a bigger swift is used to make out upper and down warp.

The threads from the spool are put into the shuttle casing as weft. To begin weaving is ready after all these processes. By doing so, weaving could be commenced according to the designs.

First, the weaver presses on the treadle with his right foot. When there is a space between upper and lower threads, the shuttle beings to run.

After shuttled for a whole role, we have to strike once the frame of the reed in a loom.

In weaving the cotton cloths, we have to weave in detail, according to the desired design. If you want to get more beautifully designed cloths, you will have to take more time in weaving.
