Everybody recognizes mushroom as a delicious delicacy. But it was not available all year round. But due to modern technology using mushroom strains, nowadays we can eat mushroom all year round. Raw materials for making straw-mushroom are straw, bran, lime stone powder, magnesium sulphate, sugar, plastic bag, rubber band and cotton wool. First, bundles of straw are cut into required size. Fertilizer must be mixed with water, according to their ratio and then sprinkle the mixture into the bundles of straw. After putting the bundles in a dry place free from bacteria you cover them with a thin sheet of plastic. These bundles of straw are to be turned upside down, every 4 days. After implementing this procedure, twice, you will get important straw compost in which to make mushroom strains. |

After sprinkling with water mixed with sugar, those raw materials must be mixed with bran, lime stone powder and magnetism sulphate, according to required ratio. Then the raw packs will be ready. Afterwards, these packs are steamed in the sterilization pot for 10 hours and put into inoculation room for 24 hours to rid them of all kinds of pests. Mushroom strains available by tissue culture in the laboratory must be in inoculation room. Afterwards, they stalled these packs in the store room. After 4 or 5 days, the mushroom strains are ready to be grown. Chairman of Paungde Township Peace and Development Council explained about mushroom growing. Straw mushroom is mainly cultivated in this region. The farmers of this region grow straw mushroom on a commercial basic, for their livelihood. There are 2 places named “Mono” and “Mushroom City” where we produce there mushroom strains. The local farmers use the strains of these 2 sources commercially. |

It has been 4 years since the time we started to scientifically experiment on this kind of strains. I buy all the straw-mushroom produced here. The mushrooms which I have bought are classified into 2 categories; high quality mushroom and low quality. The long lasting high-quality straw-mushroom are usually sent to the markets. These mushrooms which are in bloom are dried here. When the mushrooms are dried, we get the finished product. When you boiled the dried mushroom, you get the same flavour as eating fresh mushroom. In addition, growing of straw-mushroom have also become a side earner for the family. |
