Taikkyi Township is 50 miles from Yangon, and it consists of 24 villages which includes Tarkhwa village.
Previously, Tarkhwa village was full of vacant and virgin lands. Now, because of the efforts of land reclamation by private entrepreneurs, a total change is happening. Rose, guava, lime and pomelo plantations have appeared in the whole village.

At the entrance of Tarkhwa village, you will find the Hsutaurgpyi Pagoda. It's eye-catching to view the scene of fresh green paddy fields and plantations planted systematically.

As soon as you enter the village, you will witness the beautiful village lane with its row of huts, depleting the rustic life. When you go a little further, you will find a ponelo plantation, which is about 8 acres, with clusters and slusters of pomelo in the plantation. We interviewed the owner.

How did you first happen to grow these pomelo trees?
We use the graft-method to grow pomelo. First, we dig 2 to 3 ft, then put in natural fertilizer to cultivate the branch. The distance between each plant is 20 to 25 ft. They prefer sandy soil and sufficient amount of water is needed.

How many varieties of pomelo are there?
There are two varieties, white and pink. There are two kinds of pink and four kinds of white.

What kind of fertilizer is used?
We prefer to use natural fertilizer such as urea, desuper, and patash Lime.

Tell us more about the lifespan of the tree?
Pomelo have a lifespan of up to 14 to 15 years. Pomelo trees start bearing fruits at the age of 4 or 5. Pomelo can be pluck after 10 months. Pomelo trees in my plantation are 8 years old.
