Traditional Custom of Kandu National Race

Myanmar is a land where 135 nationalities live in peace and harmony. We would like to present to you our brethren the Kando nationals.

The Kando nationals live in Sattaw village, Ba Mauk Township in Sagaing Region. They live in houses made of wood and bamboo, but the way they are constructed is unique, their houses are constructed by bolting the end of the wooden posts to each other without cutting or splitting them. Balconies are attached at the side of the house and the roof of the house is made of thatch.

They mainly earn their living by farming. Their main crops are paddy, wheat, corn and vegetables. Moreover they clear up the hills and practice hillside farming. The women of the Kando National Race proudly carry on their hand-woven industry.
You will be able to witness the sincerity and honesty reflected in the nationals who are Bamar ethnic nationals. Kando nationals are Buddhist. As it is their traditional custom, everyone in the village are devotees of spiritual beings who guard the jungles and mountains. As Buddhist they donate generously towards charity. In novitiation ceremonies, the novices to be are carried by palanquin to their respective monastery in a procession.

The donors build a pavilion where meals are served. Pork curry is the main dish served with soup to all the guests of the village. The success of the novitiation ceremony is celebrated by well wishes and villagers alike with songs and dances.
