Thamee Hla Island

The Union of Myanmar has many islands and each possesses their own unique splendour and beauty. Among them, Thamee Hla Island (or) beautiful daughter is situated right in the middle of Ngawon River, along the Pathein-Ngaputaw River, which leads into the Bay of Bangal.

The area of the island is about 3 square miles, oval-shaped with 2 miles in length and 4.5 furlongs in width. The height is 50 feet in south and 70 ft in north. And there is also an 18-foot pagoda.
Beside, inland in Thamee Hla Island you will find, ancient buildings of colonial design can be seen prominently. Although it is surrounded by seawater, there are one fresh-water well and clear and cool fresh water pond with lotus flowers in full bloom.

Because the island has sand banks, sea turtles come to lay eggs on the island. The main trails of sea turtles can be found at Phayar Taung Jaing, Than Ban Jaing, Kalalay Jaing and the Sutharphue Jaing. Now, the main trail for the turtles is the Sutharphue Jaing, because the other trails have been covered with stones.
At Thamee Hla Island, the Fisheries Department is now carrying out systematic sea turtle hatching and breeding in ponds to prevent the extinction of these species.
