We will now present the programme " Melodious Flute Tunes of the Villages". The melody of the flute (palwe) goes well the beautiful scenery on the villages. Flute is one of the wind instruments that can be played with any other instrument, including the Myanmar Orchestra, Ozi (Pot-drum), Dobat (Double-headed slung drum) and the theater Saing Waing.

The flute has not only been a royal musical instrument but also the basic instrument of the rural areas in successive eras. There is no village that you won't hear the tune of the flute played, all over Myanmar.

The music of the flute mixed with the songs of the birds in the rural areas is sweet and soothing to the ears compared to the noisy sounds of the city. In rural areas, cattle are used for growing paddy and for transportation. After ploughing the fields, the farmers entrust little herds boys with the duty of looking after the cattle. The cattle are pastured far away from the village.

In the early morning, little herds-boys prepare their food before looking after the cattle. They carry their foods and accessories, needed and then start their day's work. The cattle are pastured where there are plenty of grasses and shades. The little herds-boys keep the cattle near them all day long, until the sunsets.

While they are looking after the cattle the herds-boy chat with each other and some play their flutes with their limited skills, but still making the beholder be carried away with their music.

The song of their flutes can be likened to the cuckoo singing sweetly in the summer.

Their days end with playing the fluted and chatting with each other. In the evening, when the village maidens fetch water, which is the custom of rural areas, young men play their flutes dedicating and hinting their desires to the maidens with their flutes.

At sunset, after recounting their herds, their day's work is finished .The rural areas and the flutes are inseparable. The village scene is not complete without a flute. And with this note, I would now like to end this programme "Melodious Flute Tunes of the Villages".
