The Union of Myanmar made up of various national races. It’s a sovereign and independent nation. As union spirit, is the basic requirement for the independent and sovereign nation? All national races have been living together based on Union spirit in the Union of Myanmar. The Kayin State is located in the Southeast of Myanmar. The area of the State is 11,731 sq-miles. The capital of the Kayin State is Hpa-an. Kayin State has a hot and humid climate because of the mountain ranges that lie in its backdrop and its location, which is near the sea, in the tropics. Some of the rivers and creeks in Kayin State are flowing from South to North due to the location of mountains. The main rivers in the State are Thanlwin, Thaungyin and Attaran rivers. |

National races such as Kayin, Bamar, PaO, Shan, Mon, and Rakhine are residing in the State which as a population of over 1,400,00. There are differences in tone and accent in dialects of various groups of Kayin family; they all come from the same origin. Kayin State has a cultivated area of nearly 700,000 acres. The State grows over 300,00 acres of monsoon paddy yearly, with an annual yield of 14.5 million baskets. There are over 10,000 acres of silted-land farm and over 5,000 acres of garden farms. As the state gets large amount of rain every year, monsoon crops do not need irrigation. Only cold seasonal crops are cultivated with irrigated water. Paddy is the main crop of Kayin State. Winter groundnut is cultivated on silted-land and monsoon groundnut at hillside farms. Other crops grown in the region are sesame, beans and pulses, sugarcane, rubber, coffee, coconut and fruits. Moreover, massive-land have been reclaimed and farmlands are being extended. River water pumping projects have also been implemented for promotion of agriculture and social sectors. |

On the other hand, Myaingalay cement factory contributes towards regional development. All townships in Kayin State, microwave stations and auto-phone exchanges have also been established for better communication. As the technology sector and education sector developed, Pa-an University, Pa-an Education College, Government Technological College, Government Computer College and Nurses Training School have emerged. In transport sector, there are nearly 200 bridges small and big in Kayin State including Thanlwin Bridge, Gyaing-Zartha Byin Bridge, Pa-an Gyaing Bridge and Dar-lan Bridge. That’s why peaceful and pleasant Kayin State is fruitful with smooth and secure transportation. |

Zwegapin Mountain adding to the beauty of Kayin State. The plains of Kayin State are dotted with limestone caverns and limestone hill protruding step upward. The most prominent of them is of course, Zwegabin with a height of 2,372 ft above sea-level. 7-miles far from Pa-an, there is Zwegabin Mountain, the landmark of the Kayin State. Zwegabin in Kayin is the hill where ships tie up or the capstan mountain projects various images when observed from different directions. Hpasi (ceremonial bronze drum) is the symbol of Kayin culture. Kayin don is a popular dance. The religious or traditional festival are, Kayin New Year Day Celebrations, house-warming ceremonies, sand pagoda festival, Kayin Campfire festivity, the festival to sermon the spirits, boat floating festival and bone collection ceremony. Farm festivals are harvesting festival and various festivals to offer food to spirits.
