Unprecedented Progress in Pin Phyit Model Village, Shan State (South), Yatsauk Township

Pin Phyit model village is situated in Yatsauk Township in the Southern part of Shan State. The village is 2 miles from South to North and a mile from East to West. Danu, Palaung, Pa-O and Shan nationals reside there. It has 801 households with a population of 4,481. Agriculture and Livestock breeding are the main economy of this village. Paddy, maize, sesame, beans and pulses and mango trees are being grown, in over 2,500 sown acreages, on a commercial scale. According to the 15 work programs to establish a model village, a contest to select model village was held for 13 village tracts from Yatsauk Township led by village Peace and Development Council, Union Solidarity and Development Association, Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Women’s Affairs Organization and townselder from Yatsauk Township. In this contest, Pin Phyit village won the first prize for model village. |

U Than Lwin The economy of this village is booming and it has factories and workshops Pin Phyit village is also a central point for trading in Yatsauk Township. We present the first prize for model village to Pin Phyit village due to its economic growth and the organizational skill, unity and development of local residents. In Pin Phyit village, there are altogether 3 schools, a Basic Education High School, a Post Primary School and a Basic Education Primary School. Now, students can learn matriculation education level at the B.E.H.S of Pin Phyit village with the help of teaching aids, domestic science room and media room. The Pin Phyit village has the most school-age children in Yatsauk Township. In studying (or) observing the education activities of Pin Phyit model village, all school-age children have access to schools cent per cent and there are no illiterate persons in the village. The number of students learning basic and higher education is higher than other villages. This village is also turning out a large number of graduates. Local graduates are discharging their nation tasks as teachers at the schools in their own villages for enhancing education standard of their brethrens. This factor is a strong point which promoted Pin Phyit village into a model village. In health sector, a station hospital and a rural health care centre (branch) have been launched there. A medical team comprising of specialists has been giving free medical treatments to the rural community. Specialists are giving medical treatments to surgical, orthopedic, ears, nose, throat, eyes, obstetric and gynecological patients and are also carrying out Child Tuberculosis, malaria and HIV/AIDS diseases control tasks. And the health knowledge of local people are enhanced and their health is well looked-after. The specialists are very delighted with their volunteer services which is giving health-care and medicines to the locals once a month. Pin Phyit village hospital was opened in September, 2002 with the support of the Ministry of Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs and the contribution of the public. |

| Dr. Tin Mya Htwe Station Medical Office Pin Phyit Model Village In our Pin Phyit village, health-care services such as maternal and child health-care services, water and environmental sanitation tasks, nutrition development task, looking after older persons, disease elimination tasks and health education tasks are being implemented with added momentum. At present, the mortality rate of mother and children under -1 year were significantly reduced. There is no child with nutritious deficiency, under the age of three, as they have been weighed, and given medical check-up for their nutrition development. Six months to five years children are also given vitamin A, twice a year. For iodine deficiency elimination, salt distribution shops and family iodine consumption are being examined. So, now there is no patient, suffering from iodine deficiency in Pin Phyit model village. Moreover, health education courses, organized by (Non-Government-Organizations) such as Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation are being opened and educative talks are also being given to the locals. Patients, who are in need of medical treatment, are taken to the hospital and dispensaries, with the help of the health Department. Pin Phyit villager “On behalf of local people, I would like to say that we are very happy to receive medical treatment”. In transportation sector, the roads linking from one village to another have been promoted to gravel roads. In the past, the rail road could go only up to Shwe Nyaung and now locals can travel up to Pin Phyit village. Moreover, due to peace and development, in the region many pagodas and monasteries have been built in the village. In agriculture sector, cultivation is successful with water from two dams. The agriculture sector is prospering due to systematic growing of good quality strains in farms and gardens. The government has laid down development plans, such as rural area development plans in the whole nation. Based on the genuine goodwill of the government, guidance to the local people are being carried out with united efforts, so their physical development and living standard are promoted. Today, the development of Pin Phyit model village is one of the successful examples of the rural area development tasks. |
