The Union of Myanmar made up of various national races is a sovereign and independent nation. As union spirit is the basic requirement for the independent and sovereign nation all national races have been living together based on Union spirit in the Union of Myanmar. The Shan State locates in the eastern part of Myanmar. Its total land area is over 60-thausand one hundred and fifty five sq-miles. The Shan State is the biggest with the most population. It is divided into three parts such as southern, northern and eastern Shan states. Taunggyi is the grand capital of southern Shan state. Inlay lake region is an area with a significant lifestyle. People in the region live in houses on the edge of the lake. The Inlay Lake, 14 miles in length and 7 miles in width, is renowned and it is called ȁSmall Mountain Sea” as a metaphor. The Inlay lake region has famous silver, blacksmith and textile industries. In the southern part of Shan State, there live various national races such as Shan, Pa-O, Danu, Taung Yoe, Inthar and Bamar. |

Lashio, capital of northern Shan State, situates 2,806 feet above the sea level. It is also a big city and famous Gothteik Viaduct, the second largest in the world. Shan, Palaung, Lisu, Kachin, Kokant and Wa nationals are residing there. At the 2,710 ft above sea level, Kengtong, the capital of Eastern Shan State is located. The well-known places in Kengtong are Naungtong Lake and one tree hill where the one only tallest tree standing today. Tachileik and Mongla are district towns in Eastern Shan State. Shan, Lahu, Akha, Lwe, Gonshan and Wa national races are living in harmony. Crops cultivated in the state are paddy, wheat, maize, beans and pulses, onion, garlic, sunflower, tree leaf, varginia, tobacco, tea, coffee, pear, orange and damson etc. |

The Government also has implemented Aungban-Pinglaung-Loikkaw, Shwenyaung-Yatsauk, Shwenyaung-Taunggyi, Taunggyi-Namsan, Taunggyi-Banyin-Sikekhaung and Namsan-MoeNe` railroads. Moreover, the motor roads such as Loilin-PankayTu-ThiPaw, Yatsauk-KyaukGu-NaungCho, HanMyintMoe-MyoeGyi-YwaNgan and Pinlaung-PyinMaNar have been completed. By construction of Heho and Namtsan airports, traveling by air is convenient for the public. In communication sector, one auto telephone exchange is extended to 8 exchanges and 28 rural telephone stations are serviceable to call. Agriculture is taking place on 400 thousand acres of arable land. In education sector, University, College, Technological College and Computer College are created for regional students for learning higher education. Furthermore, in health sector, dispensaries, 100-bed hospital and 200-bed hospital are built for health care of local people. |

In northern Shan State, the government reclaimed 102 thousand acres of arable land for cultivation. Poultry, pig and fish breeding farms are established for local consumption. Hydroelectric power projects at NantHmaw, Nantsaung Ngau, Pan San and Shweli are being implemented. In the region, there are one thousand six hundred and thirty six schools, six thousand and forty-two teachers and over 239 thousand students. And then, University, Lashio Degree College, Technological College, Computer college and E-learning center are upgraded. By establishing the 47 hospitals in the region, health care services are undertaken for the public. In transportation sector, 1,831.4 miles of road including 113 miles tar road and 695 miles and 4 furlongs of gravel road and 892 miles of earth road are built in the special regions and 1,540 miles and7 furlongs are renovated. 8 bridges of above 40 ft, 75 bridges and one suspension bridge are built in other regions. In communication sector, 12 post offices, 40 telephone exchange offices, 10 telegraphs offices and one Lauk Kai satellite station have also been established for easy linkages throughout the region. |

The government is also enhancing the development tasks in the eastern Shan State. After upgrading the Kengtong-Tachileik motor road, the way became shorter by only 3 hours-drive. Furthermore, traveling became more convenient for the locals through Kengtong. Mongla road as it was shorter by 2 hrs-drive. Jets plain now can land at Kengtong and Tachilek airports. 18 telegraph offices have increased from two formerly, totally 20 now. Before, there were 11 post offices but now there are 26 and 2 satellite stations, 11 microwave stations and rural telephone stations have been established in the eastern Shan State. |

In education sector, 579 schools, 18 multimedia classrooms, 11 E-libraries, Kengtone Degree College, Computer College, Technological College have been founded by the government. 200-bed hospital, three 50-bed hospitals, six 25-bed hospitals, eight 16-bed hospitals, six border area hospitals, 2 border area dispensaries, 6 rural health centers, 72 rural health care branches, 9 maternal and child health centers, one school health center, one traditional medicine clinic, one nurses and midwifery Training School are implemented for the locals. In agriculture highland agriculture has been replaced instead of shift farming. Shan State, an integral part of the Union of Myanmar where various national races are living peacefully and amicably in fraternal spirit has made a great head way in development. |
