Doe Kwin vegetable research and development form was opened by Myanma Agriculture Service, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation. It is situated on the Mandalay-Lashio road in Pyin Oo Lwin, Mandalay Region.

While Daw Na Shwe War ( Artemisia) are mainly grown, Strawberry, orchid and chrysanthemum are also being planted at this garden. Tissue culture laboratory of Doe Kwin vegetable form was established in 1992. Starting from 1985, Artemisia dry leaves are being produce jointly organized by Medical Research Department of Ministry of Industry-1.
The main objectives of the garden are,
(1) to produce abundantly, quality saplings, which can be multiply from its original species.
(2) To reserve rare species, so that they will not become extinct.
(3) To produce “ Daw Na Shwe War” ( Artemisia ) and other rare species, such as local orchid, chrysanthemum, which are being reproduced by tissue culture, and
(4) To reproduce popular strawberry species, which are suitable for the weather of Pyin Oo Lwin.

Manager U Tint Lwin, Branch Research and Development Farm, Myanmar Agriculture Service, Doe Kwin in Pyin Oo Lwin said, “Doe Kwin vegetable farm is 45 acres wide. The main crops being cultivated in this farm are Artemisia, Strawberry, Asparagus, and a variety of lettuce species. The main objective is to distribute vegetables and the third is to reproduce quality saplings with tissue culture and then there will be distributed to the formers. Atemisia plants were tested by Myanma Agriculture Service in 1984. In 2004-2005, altogether (12) acres are being cultivated. (2) acres are being cultivated for reproduction and (10) acres for producing dry leaves. These Artemisia dry leaves are sent to the Ministry of Industry 1 to produce medicine to cure malaria. After reproducing Strawberry, orchid and chrysanthemum saplings by tissue culture, it will be sold to the local farmers”.

In reproducing the saplings by tissue culture, it will be produced step by step, such as nurturing, multiplying and then producing of saplings. It takes 8 months from the time of nurturing to saplings production. And then, high quality vegetable saplings, just like their original species are obtained in abundance.
