World Buddhist Summit - III

World Buddhist Summit was grandly held in Myanmar from 9th to 11th December 2004, with the aims:
- To promote friendship, mutual understanding and cooperation among the Buddhist countries,
- To maintain Buddhist teachings and practice among the Buddhist countries,
- To promote Buddhist education based on the studies of Buddhist scriptures,
- To help bring about a peaceful world and
- To propagate the original Buddha's teachings in the world.

The concluding ceremony of World Buddhist Summit was successfully held at Mahapasana Cave, on Thiri Mingala Kabaaye Hill in the afternoon of 11th December. The ceremony was opened according to Buddhist tradition with the recitation three times of "Namo Tassa". Ma Ei Ei Chun sang the religious song "Htoo Machana" with the accompaniment of harpists. Next, 25 members of Sangha from Sri Lanka recited Metta Sutta. Ven. Sangasena of Kashmir from India gave a presentation on "Buddhism in Ladakh". Afterwards, the greetings from Sri Lanka Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse was read out. Rector of International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Saddamma Jotika Dr. Ashin Silananda bhivamsa then read out the Joint Statement.

Joint statement of World Buddhist Summit was later signed by 21 Venerable Sayadaws led by Sayadaw Abhidhaja Saddhamma Jotika Bhaddanta Pannyeinda Bhivamsa. Vice-Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka committee, and Sayadaws from India, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Czech Republic, Australia, Thailand, USA, Romania, Korea, Mongolia, Japan, Singapore, Laos, Indonesia, Nepal and Cambodia. Afterwards, Prime Minister of Myanmar, Lt-Gen Soe Win delivered his vote of thanks.
It read:
- It is highly delightful and something to be proud of to Myanmar for holding this World Buddhist Summit as the host country.
- The success of the Summit is due to the support, cooperation, patience and forbearance of all the Sanghas and participants.
