The town of Thabeikkyin is situated in Pyin Oo Lwin District, Mandalay Division in Upper Myanmar. If you happen to visit Thabeikkyin, you will have to get to the Wah Phyu Taung junction, which is 76 miles, 4 furlongs from Mandalay-Mogkok Highway. Form the junction, if you continue 10 mile, 6 furlongs, you will arrive at Thabeikkyin. |

Thabeikkyin is a town where there is the 3rd defile of the Ayayarwaddy River. The 3rd defile starts from Malae village and ends at Kyauk Myaung. On the eastern bank of the 3rd defile is Thabeikkyin District, Mandalay Division and at the western bank is Sagaing Division. It is evident that Myanmar is rich in golden and white-washed stupas and pagodas as you travel along the banks of the Ayeyarwaddy River. At the centre of the defile, you can pay homage to the ancient Angar Thiha Daw Pagoda. Thabeikkyin is situated 500 feet above sea-level and it is 75 miles from South to North and 24 miles from East to West. |

About a half of Thabeikkyin’s area is covered with green and lush forests. The Po Zar Timber Production Camp is right beside the Mandalay-Mogkok motor road. When you get to this camp, you can witness the deep lush forests and its natural environments. And you will be able to observe the timber production workers and the elephants hard at work at their jobs. You can also enjoy the elephant rides, while closely observing the natures of the forests and its surroundings. |

Thabeikkyin, nick-named the golden region is famous for its gold mining. Most of the local people earn their living by mining or panning gold. You will see all along the creek, people panning for gold with the use to “Inn Wine” turning pegs. So, if you are in for gold, why don’t you visit Myanmar’s gold panhandle and pan for your gold, yourself and at the same time enjoy the unforgettable sceneries to this region. |
