Yokesone monastery of Laekai Ancient City

Yokesone Monastery of Laekai City is situated in Pwint Phyu Township, Magway Region. It was built in 1252 Myanmar Era, that is 1891 AD.

It is facing to the North and lying East to West. It has 8 stairs and you can see all the architecture designs of a Monastery built in Konebaung Era.

It is composed of four large apartments. The balustrade of veranda winding around the monastery was decorated with dancing peacock figures and floral arabesques. Moreover, the life of Buddha was portrayed by 50-sculptures decorated by adding floral arabesques. The whole storey, was carved on a single teak log. The entire Yokesone monastery is built of teak and it has 214teak pillars. The tops of the pillars at the veranda are covered with sculptured sandstone roofs so that they can endure the weather for a long time.

They used iron furnaces that produce intense heat to make rivets needed for building the monastery.

Ancient Myanma architects used to fix colourful glass-balls on the ceilings of the buildings they built.

At the doors, you can see the use of Myanma tradition method of having the tie-beams and the wall plates erected into the corner posts without using nails.

All round the roofs of each building, you can see different designs of floral arabesques. The buildings were built separately. There are tiered –roofs at the top of the roofs of each building.

Folds of the doors at the top of the stairs are decorated with the figures of ogre.

The teak posts beneath the monastery are decorated with embossed and distinct sculpture works.

Yokesone monastery is systematically built with Myanma architectural designs and sculpture works. You can find all sorts of Myanmar arts and handicrafts at this monastery.
