The first step in making stone sculpture is to draw a sketch on the marble. Most of the stone sculptures are various forms of Buddha images. Using rivet and chisel, the marble is crafted by following the sketch drawn. After getting the rough form or figure, the stone is chiselled out in a shape of four equal sides to craft the body. Next, the hands are crafted. The stretched down left hand is carved out first and afterwards, the folding right arm is crafted. After that, the robe is chiselled out minutely to show the small folds in detail. The seat is then crafted. |

The final step is to carve out the face. Here also, a sketch is drawn first and then craft the face with great patience. After getting the required figure it has to be smoothed out with a file. Again to get a fully smooth surface,it has to be rubbed with various types of stones and sandpapers. To add color, Ingyin stone powder and a rough cloth are used to rub the sculpture. |
