Myanmar Custard Apple

During the rainy season, custard apples are produced in many regions of Myanmar. Among them, Pyay is renowned in custard apple production. Custard apples from Pyay are more bigger and pulpy and delicious than the one produced in other regions.

Custard apple from Pyay are grown along the slope of western Yoma mountain ranges in Padaung Township opposite side of Pyay. Custard apples are in season during the rainy season in Myanmar.

Outer cover of the custard apple is green and it contains small sugar sweet seed pots and black seeds local grower’s from Nyaungpinthar, Shwebonthar, Thitseitpin, Sittawin, Ywathit and Magyisu Villages in Padaung Township have to go to the mountain side and pick the fruits during the harvesting season. The plucked custard apples are put into the baskets and then carried by car to Pyay and where the fruits are sold by wholesale and retail. About 150,000 fruits are plucked in a day.

Custard apple market which is situated on the bank of Ayeyawady River in Pyay is thriving with sellers and buyers. Purchased custard apples in the trading centre are placed in baskets and crates and transported to cities all over Myanmar such as Yangon, Mandalay, Mawlamyaing, Pathein and Sittwe by road and by river.
