Dawei traditional longyi weaving art

Dawei, in Thanintharyi Region, surrounded by various sizes of hills, is a temperate zone. Its residents are simple and honest, and fishing, gardening and trading are their main earnings.

If you speak about Dawei, its beautiful Manung Makan beach and the grace of its traditional dances and songs cannot be left out. Pretty damsels participate in dance troupe. Their beauty, their dancing steps and the melodious song attract everyone who watches them. The song depicts local bachelors teasing damsels by inciting a trip to significant places in Dawei together with them but the damsels in turn politely refuse their offer. Why do Dawei damsels look so graceful whenever you look at them?

It might be because of their traditional Dawei longyi or female sarong.
Before weaving, thread yarns have to be cleared. Yarns of multi-colour are used to make attractive designs. Sound emerged from looms is like traditional melody of a countryside which cannot be heard in any modern and developed cities.

Each design is applied to 5 or 8 longyis. A longyi as long as 2 yards or 6 feet has to be woven for about 5 days. Finished products are then ready for marketing. Traditional cotton dresses are suitable to wear in tropical regions like Myanmar .

With this traditional dress weaving programme, we present fashionable dress, popular among Myanmar damsels.
