Ayeyarwaddy Dolphin Expedition ( Part-IV )

The day was the 1st of December. A Bhamo morning. The expedition team could not continue its journey since Narawat, which ran aground, near Parpaung village could not be pulled clear yet. Therefore, the expedition members went to Parpaung village to study the socio-economic life there. We met the village elder and asked him if they had seen or encountered any Ayeyarwaddy dolphins and explained to him about the purpose of our expedition. Moreover, we gave him the animals, which are on the verge of extinction and distributed educative phamphlets.

On 2nd December till morning, we waited if the Narawat could be pulled free but to no avail. So, in the afternoon we hired another motor-boat and moved our things to that boat and continued our journey. Along the way we berthed at Bhamo port to buy some essentials and while the motorboat entered, near the waters of the Port of Bhamo, we saw two Ayeyarwady dolphins habitating there. We continued our journey arriving at Dawatee Village on lower part of Bhamo where we rested for the night.

Our expedition crew continued our journey on the 3rd December morning. We the expedition crew members along the way, observed and studied the journey hoping to see more Ayeyarwaddy dolphins. At 09:10 hours which was nicknamed as the most beautiful place of the confluence, we arrived at the 2nd defile's Sin Kham Village and we crossed the narrow defile.

On either side of the defile there were thick forests and that was why, monkeys are habiting there in groups. We could make out about massive monkey groups because we heard their noises distinctively.

Inside the 2nd defile the Natmyethna and Parrot's beak rocks were there standing as if to decorate the island's beauty. And it was fanstastic! The 2nd Ayeyarwaddy defile flows from Sin Kham village to Naung More village, which was 14 miles long. After about two hours, crossing the 2nd defile, and till the end of Nayanmeik at Kachin State border we continued our journey to Shweku. At 17:05 hours, we reached Katha in Sagaing Division and rested for the night.
