Ayeyarwaddy Dolphin Expedition ( Part-VI )

The next day on the 5th of December, we continued our trip from Weigyi village heading for Mandalay. On the way, we had to cross the third defile of the Ayeyarwaddy River. The third defile starts from Malei village, Thabeikyin Township, Mandalay Division to Kyaukmyaung, in Sagain Division and about 30 miles long. In the third defile stood the most popular pagoda Ah Nya Thi Ha Taw. We arrived at Kyaukmyaung at 15:55 and continued to Sintgu. Members on duty looked out for Ayeyarwaddy dolphins along the way. Then we arrived Htonebo which was 38 miles from Mandalay where we rested for the night.

On the 6th of December, the Narawat mortorboat, which ran aground arrived at Htonebo and we moved our things to the Narawat motorboat and continued our journey.

On the way down from Mandalay we met fishery workers and inquired and gathered some information about Ayeyarwaddy dolphins. We then continued our journey and put on record the fantastic panorama of Mandalay Hill and the Sakyin Mountain, which we could see from the Ayeyarwaddy River.

Before arriving Mingun near Dingar Island, some of our expedition members went off in a small boat to study the environs. When they got near the Dinga Island they saw Ayeyarwaddy Dolphins swimming and dousing in the river happily under the golden evening sun. We then journeyed on crossing Mingun region and arriving at Mayanchan jetty in Mandalay at 17:10 in the evening and rested for the night.
