Extravagant Evidences of Myanmar Culture II

The site of the Grand Palace of King Anawrahta who founded the 1st Myanmar Empire was discovered in April 2003 at Myanmar ancient Cultural Region, Bagan and we will be presenting to you records of the excavation work on this site.
Many earthen pots spread out in the excavation site are interesting. These pots of various sizes and shapes are half-sunk on the ground here and there.
Earthen pots are mostly found among other made of cast iron and ancient materials during the short period of excavation. As they all are very invaluable, they need to be preserved systematically and patiently.

Assistant Director said, “The earthen finds are to be cleaned which we call brushing. They are then let to dry. If they are of the same type or material, we join them with glue. For long-term durability, they are painted with liquid chemical which is a mixture of Polyvinyl Acetate and tolene or tender.”

The important needs in preservation are during with full goodwill and perseverance.

As the first step, clean the dirt on the pieces again and again up to achieve the washing water becomes pure, nearly PH.7.

Then the connectable pieces are placed edge to edge so as to just touch by using glue. Moreover they have to be preserved by applying preventive liquid chemical.

Out of many excavated ancient utensils, the painted water gourds with spouts are stylistic and lovely. Especially, the red libation pot with plain, smooth, sparkling face wins all the attention of the observers.

It is very interesting to find various sizes of pots from the excavated site. Some pots are very small. Therefore, detail and artistic creation on such pots is the fantastic art of Ancient Bagan people.

Not only various pots with detail decoration but also earthen potsherds are amazing. Patterns of frieze with ogre head, females mythical bird, Brahminy duck, animal and floral accents depict how the art of making handicrafts in Bagan period had high standard and appreciable skill.

You can observe different sizes of ornamental ear-plugs. Most of them were made of clay. Moreover, glazed pipes decorated with beautiful Brahminy ducks were among the finds. Moreover earthen beads, pieces of earthen slabs and brick tiles also came out of the site that was dug. Because of finding iron knives, it is believed that craft of blacksmithy was flourished in Bagan Era.

It is to be assumed that a piece of votive tablet-shaped inscription was recorded under king Anawrahta’s reign. It is the most important historical evidence.

Furthermore, the finds of the old palace site ruled by founder of the 1st Myanmar Empire, with advanced civilization is so precious that we should take pride in the high-standard of Myanma Culture achieved since then and try to preserve these with strong patriotic spirit.
