Myeik is located in Taninthayi Division, a coastal region. The local people are doing manufacture of aquatic products in extensive there. This business could fetch a large amount of foreign exchange for the country. The grouper breeding is one of the aquatic products that can seek for such foreign currency. Many species of groupers are systematically being bred in Maw Tone Gyee village in Kyunsu Township, 18 miles from Myeik. There are numerous types of groupers in offshore water around Myeik Archipelago. Fishes with yellow spots on the trunks are being exported abundantly to foreign markets. However, fishes with orange spots on the trunk, and gray or brown spots on the trunks are more abundant around Maw Tone Gyee village. |

The flesh of groupers are very delicate and really sweet. The people from China and Hong Kong steamed the fish and eat them. Thus, groupers are delicacies for them. Therefore, we divide two kinds among groupers with orange spots on the trunk. |

Thus, 15 to 16 inches long groupers are categorized as weighing more than 1 kilogram and sold at more than 5,000 US dollars. They are exported to Hong Kong by FOB. |

Large and rare fishes weighing 50 to 80 kilos are caught by dredging operations in offshore areas. Because the bones, the skin and the gall bladder of the groupers are medicinal value, these were bought by Hongkong Market at 1,000 US dollars and above. Moreover, rare and beautiful groupers, such as red groupers, gamoatkyetpha etc, are looked for and caught from the sea around Maw Tone Gyee. The fish are then systematically nurtured and planned to introduce to foreign markets. Therefore, amateur fish breeders are invited to Maw Tone Gyee breeding farm to study and observe at any time the breeding by cage culture. |
