Coffee is the beverage of choice the world over. Myanmar has favourable land and weather condition to plant coffee plantations. The Myanma Farms Enterprise under the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation has provided the necessary inputs such as technical systems and distributing high quality beans to the private growers. A big French Coffee Trading Company has ordered 36 tons of green beans from Shan State in the biggest sale of its kinds by the Myanma Farms Enterprise. |

The growing demand for coffee in the world market has resulted in a government plan to plant a hundred thousand acres to coffee in the next 5 years. Up to last March, the total areas cultivated had reached 25,000 acres with plans to plant another 14,000 acres during the 2002-2003 fiscal year. Myanmar produced 2,000 tons of coffee last year. |
