A large gems showroom and two workshops of the Myanmar VES Joint venture Ltd., are located on a plot besides Myanma Gems Museum.The VES Co., is the first to introduce high frequency precision casting system into Myanmar. Traditional gold smithy was practiced in the country before new techniques were introduced.
Ornaments are designed for their contrasts, proportion and balance so that the wearer will be fully satisfied with the artifacts that are being adorned. Master craftsmen are engaged in creating the best works of art based upon appropriate designs that have existed before and on the outcome of successful designs that they have introduced into the market.
After the selection of the designs, three dimensional models are created from green wax by qualified technicians. The proportional aspects of these model wax carvings are further assessed by creating more soft wax models before the castings are made. There is the most intricate process to do because of the nature of the materials used.The wax models are then put into specially-designed chambers to be molded with plasters and sprayed with gold.
The wax trees are then put in chamber furnaces to dewax the injection waxes and mould plasters.The gold ornaments obtained from the process are filed. Rough edges and file marks are then polished using soft sand paper.
The precious stones are evaluated for the refraction index, transparency and size before being cut into different shapes at the lapidary. Polishing are done by means of rubbing with powdered diamonds on a smooth metal plate.
The sorting department then re-evaluate and re-value the polished stones. These are sent to settings sections where qualified employees mode Bezel, Channel, Prong and Pave settings upon gold ornaments.The jewellery items are polished on polishing machines at the last stage.
Quality Control is being practised in all stages starting from designs, castings and gold smithy down to cuttings and polishing of precious stones. The final check is being done by a French expert. Highly attractive quality jewellery are displayed at the showroom where resident expatriates and tourists come to patronize the products.
Myanmar has a unique geological condition where priceless varieties of gems naturally occur in one place, particularly in Mogok region. The Myanmar VES has modern up-to-date lapidaries that transform raw jade and ruby stones into beautiful jewellery items such as rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets etc. Other less valuable stones like Peridot, Amethyst, Quartz, White Sapphire, Topaz are also turned into valuable costume jewellery by its highly qualified technicians and experts.
