Taunggyi Tazaungdaing Lighting Festival
( Communal Kathina Robe Offering )

Before the full- moon day of Tazaungbon devotees flock to the city central Damaryon and procession.
Reporter :We are now at the centre of Taunggyi, the capital of Shan State and there is the traditional customs, Kahtina robe offering ceremony and this time of ceremony in procession in systematic manner.

You can see padaythabin or three shaped stand where Kathina robes and various articles of offering are hung beautifully.
An annual event where you can see communal offerings by local people and government departments are noticeably handsome. So you can gage how devoted the people of Taunggyi are.

All Buddhists take part Kahtina robes offerings individually or communally. It is a worthwhile effects in once life time.
While bringing Padaythabin trees to attract the viewers cash-notes were woven into mosaic caricature. Where one offers Kahtina robes, there must be at least five monks in attendant. It is believed that Kahtina robes offerings bring merits to the donors and the donor will be free from five kinds of enemies and disasters.

Mary Lou Manner; Well, this is my second time here.I enjoyed so much first time I ( Michigan,USA ) came that I come back again.

Reporter : I think all the people ate bustling and hustling .

Mary Lou Manner : Oh! wonderful people, really very nice. I enjoy very much in this country.

Anina : It’s my first time in Myanmar and I enjoy very much with people here who are very nice, very friendly and it’s so colourful and the ballon launched yesterday was very interesting.

Reporter : last night balloons festival ?
Nornia : It’s very generous .It’s so happy.
After the processions in a whole town at the Damaryone, Padaythabin trees were handed over to the trustees. After the procession day on the full-moon day of Tazaungmone is the merit sharing day. The trustees draw and give away the trees according to the monasteries in the cities.
Reporter : These offertories will be donated to 74 monasteries in Taunggyi Township.
