Highland farmland reclamation and cultivation project is be in carried out in Kaung Kha , Kachin Special Region (5). According to the poppy substitute cultivation special project, the northern Shan State can create the beauty of the State with the agricultural work. This project will contribute to the uplift of living Standard of national races.

Kaung Kha region locates in Kut Khai Township, Northern Shan State. After rebuilding peace and tranquility, eradication of poppy plantation, cultivation of poppy substitute crops and development of border areas are being carried out in the region. Moreover, the lands are reclaimed in the hill regions and modern terrace cultivation system is applied in place of mobile farming system.The leader of Kachin Special Region (5), U Mahtu Naw explained the progress of this project.

“I think the highland farmland reclamation and cultivation projects will produce good returns. If we reclaim the terrace cultivation for alternative crops, we can prevent soil erosion by rains. By this project, we can cultivate every year. We believe the farmers will take interest in the terrace forming for their successful cultivation. The government is providing farm implements and technicians for us. That’s why we are making great endeavours in the substitute crop cultivation.”

Today, the highland farmland reclamation and cultivation project has been implemented as a state project. Only then, it will prevent deforestation, carry out conservation of environment and raise the living standard of the farmers.
