Native home of the Khame

The Rakhine State lies between the Rakhine mountain ranges in the west of Myanmar and the Bay of Bangal. The Rakhine State is abound with natural flora, mountains, streams and rivers. Besides the Rakhine nationals, we also have the Thet, Dain, Net, Mro and the Khame national races who all live in peace and harmony in the Rakhine States.

All the national races of Myanmar have their own culture and customs which are being maintained with pride and devotion. You can reach the Akyitawma village, a village of the Khame national races from the ancient Rakhine capital, Mrauk-U in a hour’s time with boat.

You have to travel to Akyitawma village by taking the winding roads through Mrauk U, Phonethawmaw, Kanseik and Bawmyint creeks. The view along the journey is vividly green with all the nipa palm trees living the route.

The Akyithawma village is situated on the bank of the Daikjoun Creek and the Khame nationals who live at the village earn their living by fish and prawn breeding and paddy cultivation. Because of the richness of the land it is aspiring to witness the big piles of paddy harvested by the locals.
The Khame nationals use their own traditional gender and sieve to clean their rice. They weave their own cloth in their traditional weaving style called Gjakhou. The Gjakhou cloths have intricate and eye-clothing designs and are a pretty sight to behold.
And there’s this lovely custom, whenever a visitor arrives at the village, he is brought a dish every household in the village for the visitors to consume. This custom portrays the hospitality of the Khame nationals.
The Myanmar people custom of greeting their guests with open-arms, golden smiles and genuine sincerity is characterized vividly by the Khame national race who presides at Akyitawma villages, at the western most part of the Union of Myanmar.
