Lawka Nanda Sanctuary Garden

Lawka Nanda Sanctuary Garden locates on the bank of the Ayeyarwady River and seven miles from ancient city of Bagan-Nyaungoo in Mandalay Division in central Myanmar. The 107.97 acre garden was opened in 1995.

The garden was founded with a view to give sanctuary to animal, and birds in the dry zone and to create a garden with various green and lush trees.

More than 20 thousand trees and flowers are planted in the garden. It also has 240-thousand square feet of grass lawns. It is a haven of about 50 species of birds such as wood-pickers, kites, turkeys, peacocks, pheasants, saris cranes and ducks as well as deers and well-known star tortoise.

People visiting the ancient royal city of Bagan on pilgrimage also visit the Lawka Nanda Sanctuary Garden after paying obeisance to the pagodas. They take a joy ride of fancy bullock carts and go round the garden to study birds and trees and take their recreation there.

The Lawka Nanda Sanctuary Garden is a heaven for animals and birds as well as an oasis in the dry zone where local and external tourists can take recreation.
