The Legacy of Bagan

The entrance of the Legacy of Bagan special exhibition is decorated with the replica of a Therapa gate. The Therapa gate is well known for its architectural design and it is the only one entrance gate for ancient capital city Bagan. So lets go round the exhibition. As soon as you enter the exhibition hall, you can feel that you are in Bagan, you can see the whole Bagan in one place.

On the right sight of the exhibition you will see four replicas of pagoda no 433 Pyontansar pagoda showing in four stages before and after restoration work.

Besides you will also see the replicas of prominent Bagan pagodas such as the largest pagoda Dammayangyi, the highest pagoda 200 and 1 feet Thatbyinnyu pagoda, Nan Phaya pagoda well known for its artistic masonry and Sinphyushin monastry or the Buddhist University of the Bagan period. Bagan period carvings, sculptures and masonry are also highly superb.

Hence real pieces of masonry and glaze wares are shown. On the dais in the eastern section of the exhibition, a small replica of Nandamyinya pagoda from Minanthu village is shown. Bagan pagodas and temples are well known for its murals as interior decoration.
As one goes inside the model of pagoda, one can observe a lot through these wonderful murals. During the Bagan period, these were three most important types of archways were built. You will discover these three copies of archways radiating archways, corbelled archways and straight archways. You will discover these types of archway, three copies of archway in this exhibition. These arches keep the pagodas and temples in balance and lasting for a long long time no matter how large or how high and it is an amazing achievement of Bagan period.
Turning left, one will find murals displayed in section. The first room shows murals depicting the Bagan people's life and livelihood and their mode of dress. The second room shows murals of music and dance patterns. One can imagine how melodious the music would be and how gentle the dance movements.
In the third room, murals on a life of lord Buddha are show. Myanmar people's goodwill, generosity and piety can also be appreciated by viewing the murals. At the fourth room, the Bagan period ink inscriptions are shown. Since Bagan period, Myanmar literary standard had been prominent. One can also study the foundation plans and architectural designs of Bagan pagodas and temples and also the restoration work with modern techniques.
