The Sanctuary on Mane Mahla Island is in Bogalay Township, in Ayeyawady Division. The Mane Mahla Island Sanctuary and forests on it are very close to the sea. The island itself is in the centre of the tidal Bogalay River in the east and Kadonkani River in the west.

On the all vial soil island, there are small creeks and inlets flowing in and out of it according to the tide.

The main island of Mane Mahla sanctuary is 33,779 acres wide. The Lawkadat Island which is 192 acres wide is also added in the sanctuary so the total of the whole sanctuary is 33971 acres wide with only tidal forests growing on it. There are rare species of crocodiles that can inhabit in mixed fresh-water and seawater. They could be seen on the sanctuary in the day as well as at night by searchlights in a creek linking the south and the north of the Mane Mahla Island.

Apart from the crocodiles, other animals like otters, mammals, birds inhabiting on beaches, hibernate birds and butterflies are also in the sanctuary for you to study.On the Mane Mahla Island sanctuary there exist a historical “Myauk Taya” Pagoda and the Shrine of U Shingyi Nat as well.

The 16-mile long Mane Mahla Island Sanctuary was established in 1994. If you would like to visit the sanctuary, there is a guest house in Bogalay as well as Thaung Chaung Camp, Kyaung Htauk Camp, Htaw Paing Camp and Michaung Gaung Poke Camp on the Mane Mahla Island for you to take a rest.

At Thaung Chaung and Kyaung Htauk Centres on the Mane Mahla Island, tiny crocodiles living in mixed fresh-water and seawater are caught and raised there. The endangered species from disappearing are later released into the sea, their natural place.You can also enjoy the sunset panoramic scene of the Mane Mahla Island.
