Union of Myanmar ( II )

The Republic of The Union of Myanmar is geographically situated in Southeast Asia.

The total area of Myanmar is 677,000 square kilometers. The topography of Myanmar can roughly be divided into three parts: the Western Hills Region, the Central Valley Region and the Eastern Hill Region. The Central Valley Region consists of the broadest valley of the Ayeyarwady.The Eastern Hill Region is the Shan Plateau which is average 3,000 to 4,000 feet above sea level. The Republic of The Union of Myanmar is made up of over hundred national races of which the main ethnic groups are Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Bamar, Mon, Rakhine and Shan.

Kayin State

Kayin State is situate in southeast of Myanmar. The area of the State is 11,731 square miles. It has a hot and humid climate and a population of 1,431,377. Paddy is the main crop of Kayin State. Other crops and fruits also grown in the region.The magnificent Zwegabin Hill is an attractive place for visitors. Hpasi (ceremonial bronze drum) is the symbol of Kayin culture. Kayin don is a popular dance.

Yangon Division

Yangon Region is situated in the southern most part of the central plain. It has a tropical monsoon climate. Yangon is the main commercial city trading local and foreign goods. It is the centre of export and import business. Shwedagon pagoda , which is renowned as one of the wonders of the World, other famous pagodas such as Sule, Botahtaung, Meilamu, Kabaaye, Maha Wizaya, Buddha’s Tooth Relic and Abhaya Labha Muni marble image are situated in Yangon. The city has the zoological garden and many beautiful parks.

Rakhine State

Rakhine State is situated in the western most part of the nation. It is located in tropical monsoon region. Its population is 2,698,000. There are fishing stations in Sittway and Kyauk Phyu Townships, using modern trawlers in catching prawns and fish at sea. Mrauk-U, an ancient royal town, is rich in interesting historical sites such as pagodas and other cultural edifices and antiques. Moreover, the ancient cities Danyawady and Vassali are located in the State. Ngapali and Kanthaya re beautiful beach resorts.

Bago Division

Bago Region is in the south of the big central plains. The total population of Bago Region is 5,014,000. Evergreen forests grow at the end of the eastern hilly region and the southern end of the Bago Mountain Range. The major crop is paddy. The Pyay Mountain Range Oil Field in ShweDaung Township produces petroleum. In Bago, there is the Kanbawza Thadi Palace ground of King Bayintnaung.

Mon State

Mon State is situated in southeast part of Myanmar. It has a tropical climate. The population is 2,466,000. Famous farm products of Mon State are rubber, durain, pineapple, avocado and other fruits. Kyaikhtiyoe pagoda is visited by people from all over the country and tourists. Kyaikkami Yayle pagoda is significant and Setse is a beautiful beach resort.

Ayeyarwaddy Division

Ayeyarwaddy Region lies at the southern end of the central plains of Myanmar. In this Region, over 3.6 million acres out of more than four million acres of agricultural lands, are paddy fields. The division is called the biggest rice-bowl of Myanmar. Accordingly, the division produces fish, prawn, fish-paste, dry fish, dry prawn and fish sauce.

Chaungtha Beach Resort, Ngwesaung Beach and Hainggyi Island are significant with this beauty and pleasantness.

Taninthayi Division

Taninthayi Region is situated in the southern most part of Myanmar. It has tropical monsoon climate. Its total population is 1,327,000. Offshore fishing is an important business in the Region which is a costal region dotted with island along the shallow costal waters. Bird nests can be found in the caves on islands of the Myeik archipelago. There are mineral mines in various parts of the Region.

Maungmagan Beach Resort, famous for its blue waters and white sands is located in Taninthayi Region.

The Republic of The Union of Myanmar is formed by seven States and seven Regions. All the national races of the Union, living together in Unity and amity, are preserving their wonderful natural beauties, significant culture and tradition in their respective regions.
