The Union of Myanmar is an agricultural - based country hence it has abundant crop-supplies such as paddy, beans and corn.
With the objectives of increasing the irrigated acres of farmland and accelarated momentum for obtaining water for agricultural purposes the government has been building new dams and reservoirs, carrying out arrangements for full utilization of water from catchment areas and has been setting up river water pumping stations to irrigate farmlands.
By implementing these tasks there is a total of 37.14 million acres of agricultural land in the country including 4.9 million acres of irrigated farmland.

As the government is giving priority in building dams and reservoirs, altogether there are 134 dams and reservoirs which have already been constructed throughout the country. Among them is Thaphanseik Dam which is four and a half miles long. It is the longest earth dam in South East Asia.

Myanmar is a country of abundant forests and woods covering an area of 1300,000 square miles that is 50.81 per cent of the land covered by forests.
The government is implementing a 30-year National Project on Forestry Sector to keep the forests of Myanmar thriving forever. By implementation of this project, over 66 million areas of forests will have been established as ever green forests.
Oil and natural gas and natural resources have been discovered in Myanmar because of its good geographical situation.

Myanma Natural Gas and Oil Enterprise has been exploring new oil and natural gas fields. It is carrying out exploration in 47 inland blocks and 27 offshore blocks in Mattaban, Tanintharyi and Rakhine offshore areas. Under these tremendous endeavours Kyauk kwet and Letpanto new inland oil and natural gas fields, Yadana natural gas field and the Diamond and Ruby natural gas field in Mattaban offshore area as well as Yetakun natural gas field in Tanintharyi offshore area have been discovered as new blocks.
As an infrastructure of energy, a total length of 1,735 miles of natural gas pipelines have been laid in both inland and offshore areas.The energy sector is earning a large amount of foreign exchange currencies for the country.
Myanmar, being a rich country in natural resources, discovered an enormous ruby weighing 21,450 carat, a huge block of sapphire weighing 63,000 carat, a large natural pearl weighing 169 gram and 929.50 rati and a jade dyke weighing over 3,000 tons in respective blocks.
Myanmar is standing tall as a peaceful and tranquil nation where more than 135 national races are living together in harmony.Whenever there were difficulties and problems and the dangers of internal and external distructionists, all the national races, with hands in hands and solidarity, successfully solved them.
