Located some 44 miles from Mandalay, the second largest city in Myanmar, and built at an elevation of 3,605 feet above sea-level, is the quiet town of Pyin-Oo-Lwin. With its cool, temperate weather, scenic natural beauty, and its many sites of interest, this hill station is a place fully deserving a visit for an interlude of rest and relaxation.

One of the most notable of these is the National Kandawgyi Gardens. Those visiting the Gardens can enjoy their picnic lunches while studying the profusion of flora and fauna of the lake and its surroundings.

Upon entering the eco-friendly main entrance to the garden ,you will first come upon fountains, waterfalls and rills and flowers in season. Those, who are interested in studying tree will find representatives of 402 domestic and 67 foreign species growing there. Seventy five species of representative Myanmar bamboos are also growing well in the garden, and plans are underway to add more species to make the bamboo collection even more complete.

Orchids will also be pleased to find 133 species of Myanmar orchids available for study and research at the Garden, in addition to some 410 species of growing plants used in the production of traditional Myanmar herbal medicines growing there.

Also present are rare species of water birds such as the Mandarin Duck, the MuseSwan, and the Black Swan as well as Peacocks, Peahens and a wide variety of other birds.Seasonal flowers growing in profusion all year round include Tulips, Freesia, Pansies, Petunias, etc.The National Kandawgyi Gardens cordially extends its welcome to all those who would care to come for an instinctive and rewarding holiday in truly lovely, exotic and pleasant surroundings.
