Myanmar Performing Arts Competitions
(Open-ended drum with a long body-Ohzi)

It has now been ten times that Myanmar people have been holding the Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions to keep the national pride of Myanmar, preserving the real traditional arts of Myanmar, grandeur over a thousand year.

New generation artistes show their artistry in the competition. Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts is based on traditional musical instruments of brass, string, leather, wind and clappers.Among the competitions we will now present Ohzi competition, one of the Myanmar traditional instruments of the competition.

In Ohzi music group consists of one Ohzi, one oboe (or) a flute, bamboo clappers and a pair of cymbals. The boys play their instruments skillfully in the competition. The boy who plays Ohzi is the leader of the group. His song and crooning activate the Ohzi group. U Shwe Yoe dance also supports the power of the players. The jokes of U Shwe Yoe make it more alive and active. Although Ohzi has one face, a dexterous player can play variety of sounds.

The Oboe is the most important instrument in the Ohzi group. It is innovated from the flute. And also it is a real wind instrument. Please see and give a listen to the Ohzi Dobat.

Besides the flute, cymbals and bamboo clappers also support to the Ohzi group to make it more lively. In this programme, the boys demonstrate their skills and actively participated in the competition. Next year, we will present more programmes of the new generation artistes like this.
