Palm Oil Cultivation

As palm oil is the main domestic consumer commodity in the country, to meet the requirements, extensive efforts are being made with systematic projects for land preparation. Palm oil being perennial crop, choosing best quality is of utmost importance. With Myanmar climatic conditions, one acre of palm oil can yield 5 tons of palm oil and could produce about one ton of raw palm oil. One ton of raw palm oil can get 1.3 ton palm oil.

Palm oil is produced from the skin which is taken from the seeds. Soap and skin-care toiletries are sideline products of palm oil. It is projected to grow 50,000 acres of palm oil in Tanintharyi Division. Since the palm fruits will begin to bear in four or five year time, it will meet the required palm oil as demanded. By cultivating palm oil it can fulfill the need of edible oil and industrial raw oil needs in the country. As neighbouring countries like China and India have been importing hundreds of tons of palm oil and as it is great demand in the world market, excess palm oil are projected to be exported. At the moment, 17 local companies owned by nationalities have taken the responsibility of cultivating palm oil crops in Dawei, Myeik, Kawthoung areas and Mon State, are being projected to establish oil factories, it is learnt.
