A day in the life of the Pa-O Family

As soon as the sun comes up, Katku village in Southern Shan State, resided by Pa-O national races becomes alive.
Khun Oo Nhoe is the head of the family who are living in this village; wake up in the morning to start their daily chores.

As soon as the whole family woke up, his wife has already cooked their lunch.After cooking, he packs the lunch with leaves to have in the field where they work.

The parents are busy and their children are also studying.
Now, the whole family is ready to work.
Today is a holiday so the children help their parents.
As for the Pa-O national, the lands are virgin lands and far from their village.
Cultivation is their traditional work and they work together concertedly. In winter and early summer, they grow other crops for their living and in rainy season, they grow paddy.
As their family is working in the field, grandma who left in the house is weaving the mat, not wasting her time.
Pa-O national races have mastered the art of bamboo-work.

At lunchtime, they gather around and have their lunch from the packets of home-cooked rice and curry.
The curry is very simple. Fermented Soya-bean and various vegetables near the field are the main dish for them.
After lunch, they continue their work till evening.
About sunset, grand is looking forward to her son, daughter and grandchildren.
Oh! They are coming. After finishing their day’s work, they come back home.
When they arrived home, housewife is now cooking dinner.
As soon as dinner is ready, they eat together happily.
As Pa-O nationals firmly believe in Buddhism, the whole family prays together at night. Then, they go to bed and relax their wearied mind. They will be fresh for the next day.
